Passage: Ephesians — Weddings are fun to do. I love doing weddings. My perspective of weddings is different than all others in the service. From my position I can see everything and especially how I see the two most important people in the wedding. Here is the best part. If the bride and groom have not seen each other before hand. The moment that the doors open and the groom sees the bride.

Josh is hard. Children thrive in why church dating the same for less. Quite a member of you, and former pastor. You exit the church matters of ebooks.
A couple of years ago, I read a book by Joshua Harris entitled, “Stop Dating the Church: Fall In. Love With The Family Of God.” In this book Harris affirmed that.
Imagine your wedding day or any beautiful wedding ceremony that you have attended. Think of the husband’s eyes—completely focused on his bride. He is captured by her beauty and stands ready to give all his life to her. Similarly, the bride’s eyes are only for her groom, and as she steps toward him, she readies herself to make the same lifelong commitment to him. This earthly picture of all-consuming love points us toward a much greater reality.
For a husband’s passion for his bride gives us a small glimpse into God’s love for His heavenly bride, the church. Just imagine the impact the church could have on society today if we shifted from serving ourselves to wholeheartedly serving Christ’s bride. Our God loves His bride with an everlasting love that is stronger than death, and He has demonstrated His commitment to her by not sparing His own Son see Jeremiah ; Song of Songs ; Romans Just as a husband cares for his wife, Christ deeply cares for His church.
The moment you became a Christian, you yourself became a part of His bride.

Friends, instead of seeing the church for all its flaws and foibles, why not see it as the wisdom of God Ephesians , and the beautiful bride of Christ Ephesians Jesus is the only one who has the right to disown or give up on the church, but he never has and never will. Therefore, let me leave you with this challenge. Many people are fond of saying that we need to develop a heart for the poor or a heart for the lost, and these are good desires. But may I challenge you to also develop a heart for the church?

We see in Genesis that God takes a day a week for renewal very seriously. He made Sabbath-keeping one of the Ten Commandments. But if you’re worried that I’m going to try to convince you that Sunday is the new Sabbath for Christians, you’re wrong. I don’t believe that Christians are called to observe the Old Testament laws about Sabbath-keeping.
Still I think we’re missing out on enormous personal and spiritual blessings when we treat Sunday like any other day. Because it isn’t. The early church called it “the Lord’s day. I think you’ll discover that God has something for you that will radically change your church experience because Sundays have come to us as on of His sweetest gifts.
We first need to see Sunday with new eyes. Of course, in one sense it’s just an ordinary day– twenty-four hours during which the sun rises and sets. But when your heart begins to beat for God’s glory and God’s people and you begin to glimpse His longing to visit you, Sunday changes. Actually, it becomes something extraordinary.

The title of that book induces panic in people, but in its pages is great truth for young men and women in dating relationships. I recommend it for all young people, high-school and college. I also recommend Boy Meets Girl. Both those books profoundly affected my view of relationships as a young person. Now this book was written in , so its not terribly recent, but it is ever relevant today. Josh is now a pastor of a church in Maryland.

I could not put this book down for some very personal reasons. We live in a consumeristic age. So we go through the motions without really investing ourselves. The next chapter is a beautiful picture of the church being his bride, one that is cherished. Jesus is the only person who has the right to disown and give up on the church.
But He never has. And He never will. We cannot pursue godliness or holiness alone. We are living stones in the Temple of His body. In a later blog, I will discuss the last two chapters. Although Harris has plenty of good things to say in his book there are a few weaknesses, especially reading it from a non-American non-Mega Church perspective. It is obvious that Harris has never come face to face with some of the main problems a lot if not most Christians face.

For the next few weeks, I’ll be filling in for Mike in the afternoon service. I’m happy to do it for several reasons, two of which I want to name. First, I’ve been eager to study a book together, as we used to do on Wednesday nights, and to try out a new format that I hope will help us stay alert after lunch and benefit from the insight we all have because-in the words of the prophet-. The title is intended for people younger and hipper than I am.
Josh Harris is all grown up. The man who brought us I Kissed Dating Goodbye when he was just twenty-one, and who is best known for.
Joshua Eugene Harris born December 30, is an American author and former pastor. Harris’ book I Kissed Dating Goodbye , in which he laid out his ideas concerning a Biblically-based Christian approach to dating and relationships helped shape purity culture for many Christian millennials. The following year, Harris announced that he was separating from his wife, had “undergone a massive shift in regard to my faith in Jesus” and was not a Christian.
Harris is the first of seven children born to Gregg and Sono Harris , pioneers in the Christian homeschooling movement. He is of Japanese descent on his mother’s side. Rebelution is a neologism defined by its creators as “a teenage rebellion against low expectations. Harris married Shannon Hendrickson in In she began going under the name Shannon Bonne.

Is this what God wants for us? In Stop Dating the Church!: Fall in Love with the Family of God, bestselling author Joshua Harris says no, God’s purpose for.
Soon we discovered this was a pattern in his life. Countless beautiful, Jesus-loving women had failed his perfection test and thus he remained alone. His unrealistic expectations left him always assuming the grass was proverbial greener. I do, however, want to acknowledge how all of us, can from time to time, do the same thing with the church. Sometimes, Christ followers can act like the guy who is waiting for the perfect girl.
We hop from one service to another, taking good teaching from one place and incredible worship from the another, without committing our selves to love, give, and serve alongside a community of believers.

By Joshua Harris – Colorado Springs: Multnomah Books Initial confession – it was the small, attractive format of this book which first drew my attention -an A5 sized hardback with large and well spaced font. Then the intriguing title, which seemed a strange combination of relationship guide and church life commentary. Joshua Harris offers a new mindset for discouraged disciples to re-engage with passion and love with their neighbourhood gathering of the Body of Christ — one chapter is subtitled ‘Thinking Globally, Loving Locally’, another ‘Seeing Church from Heaven’s Perspective’.
As this is a short book, I get the impression that Joshua Harris deliberately overstates his case to make a point; here are a selection of quotes which could provoke new insight, lively debate or disgusted disagreement! For anyone who has wondered at times what on earth is God doing in describing us lot gathered together as His bride-to-be, this book provides a summary guide to key verses in the Gospels, Epistles and Revelation which outline God’s intention for the “little ‘c’ church” local and the “big ‘C’ church” global, eternal.
Stop Dating the Church!豆瓣评分： 简介：Putting in their hour or two on the weekend, many Christians take the rest of the week off, neglecting the church.
Harris believes that many, and perhaps even the majority of Christians, have a fear of committment to the church. In Failing to commit to the church, we cheat ourselves, we cheat our church community and we cheat the world. Over the next six chapters, Harris explains the beauty of the church, our need for the church, what committment to a church involves, what to look for in a church, and how to make Sunday the best day of the week.
He draws liberally from the books and teachings of Charles Spurgeon, Don Whitney and John Piper, and builds convincing, biblical arguments. Chapters five and six are particularly engaging. The fifth chapter lays out ten criteria by which to choose a church. The sixth chapter provides some suggestions for redeeming Sunday and restoring it to a place of distinction whereby we use it deliberately as a day to refuel our spiritual batteries.
